Speed-O Cappuccino, a remarkable queer & Latinx-owned vegan coffee cart, was founded by Dahlia Hanson and her partner, Joseph Miller in the summer of 2021. What sets this unique coffee cart apart is its unwavering commitment to honor queer sex workers, as they generously donate proceeds from their daily specials to support various nonprofits and mutual aid funds, including the PDX Stripper Strike and the Cascade AIDS Project. The cart itself serves all the usual bikini barista faves, but it forgoes the usual muffins and scones fare for an exciting array of vegan offerings, ranging from hand-dipped corn dogs and smashburgers to delightful plant-based shakes, plus tamales lovingly prepared by Miller to celebrate and reflect Hanson's Mexican heritage. Speed-O Cappuccino takes pride in being staffed by sex workers of all genders, who often wear baseball jerseys adorned with the empowering label "Thembo." This coffee cart is not only a haven for delicious vegan treats but also a symbol of resilience, empowerment, and solidarity, proving that embracing one's identity and heritage can inspire positive change in the community.
